FAQ / TROUBLESHOOTING 1. I downloaded and installed MonNET successfully. When I go to start MonNET I get an error indicating that a required file is missing. What's wrong? This is the most common problem that is reported to us and is relatively easy to fix. MonNET requires that the Novell 32-bit client be installed on the computer that is running MonNET. MonNET WILL NOT work with the Microsoft Client for Novell. Download the latest Novell 32-bit Client from Novell and install it on the computer that you will using to run MonNET and the problem will go away. IMPORTANT!!!: The Novell 32-bit client IS ONLY REQUIRED ON THE WORKSTATION THAT IS RUNNING MONNET!!! The other workstations on your network (e.g., the workstations that MonNET will be tracking) can be running any network client that you desire. 2. I double-click on a file in the Open Files window so that I can see which network users have that particular file open but the dialog is empty. What's wrong? One of two things could be happening here. You must be at least a console operator to see the users that have a particular file open. If you are not, the 'users' dialog will be empty. The other possibility is that your version of the Novell 32-bit client is out of date. Try upgrading the workstation that is running MonNET to the latest version of the Novell 32-bit client (currently 3.21.0.0). 3. Whenever I exit MonNET some kind of system error is generated. Most of the errors that we have encountered when using MonNET can be traced back to subtle differences between different versions of the Novell 32-bit client. If you report the specific error to us along with the specific version of the Novell 32-bit client that you are using we will make every effort to implement a fix. The easier solution, however, would be for you to upgrade the Novell 32-bit client on the workstation that is running MonNET to the current version (currently 3.0.1.0) and try again. 4. I would like to use the Alarm notification feature but it does not appear to be working. For the Alarm notification feature to work correctly, 4 conditions must be met: * In MonNET Configuration (on the Alarms page), you must select the users for which you want to be notified and you must select the correct radio button at the bottom of the page to select the type of notification you want. * On the E-Mail Config configuration page you must enter the name or IP address of a valid SMTP server and TCP/IP MUST be installed on the workstation you are using to run MonNET! * On the E-Mail Config configuration page you must enter a valid e-mail address for receipt of the Alarm notification messages in the form of @. * Alarm notification will not commence until the MonNET logging process has been started. 5. I click on a file server in the Attached Servers list box on the main MonNET screen and it shows me that no users are logged in when I know for a fact that several users are logged in. Again, this is probably due to either an outdated Novell 32-bit client or insufficient rights relating to the user account that is attached to the server in question. 6. I went to start MonNET and a dialog box appears informing me that either someone has been tampering with the system date or that a required initialization file is missing. What's wrong? MonNET itself is installed on a single workstation on your network. MonNET will track activity on all file servers that this workstation is attached to. Note that, unlike earlier versions, MonNET does require that the Novell NetWare 32-bit client be installed on the workstation that will be running the MonNET program. MonNET WILL NOT operate correctly with the Microsoft Client for NetWare. This requirement IS ONLY for the workstation that will be used to run MonNET. All other workstations on your network can be running any network client that you choose. MonNET Licensing ================ MonNET is licensed on a per-workstation basis. Since MonNET can monitor multiple Novell file servers, typically only one copy of MonNET will be required per organization. MonNET is currently available as a 30-day evaluation. This 30-day evaluation version can be converted to a registered version by purchasing the program online at our Web site at MonNET is priced at US $125.00.
